ret’s decade-plus of professional writing and editing experience has given him an informed sense of storytelling. He’s given voice to political nominees at conventions out West; athletes at Olympic Games in Europe; and great chefs in New York City, all with an eye for detail and an ear for dialogue.
Before joining ?What If!, Bret honed his craft at Newsweek magazine, where he was a senior writer and editor providing analysis of national affairs and working with name-brand writers in a variety of fields, including economics, technology, and science. Bret has taken on leadership roles in other editorial contexts as well. Most recently he served as editorial director for Park & Bond, a men’s fashion vertical at Gilt Groupe aimed at making guys smarter consumers. And he is a guest instructor each July at a Northwestern University summer program for aspiring journalists, where he teaches 90 high schoolers about reporting, writing, and ethics.
Bret lives in Brooklyn with his girlfriend (and his Pomeranian).
